Illegal train journey (don’t tell the Irish)

June 12, 2009 · 1 Comment

As a travelling dog I like to get around by train, especially as this is good for the environment being green conscious and all. So on my recent holiday to Ireland I decided that I would go to Dublin by train.

The humans that I was with bought their tickets and then we went on to the platform. One of them jokingly said to one of the train staff that she assumed that dogs were allowed on trains (and why not!), but apparently they are not… (No bikes either!). The guy was very friendly and said that seeing I was such a nice looking dog he didn’t think that it was a problem, but best to get off a couple of stops before the main station so as not to attract attention.

We spent the day walking around Dublin and had picnic in a park. Surprisingly not many dogs in Dublin so this meant that I got  a lot of attention as I seemed to be a novelty. Then when we were all worn out, we plodded back to the station to get the train home. I climbed up the stairs, and waited for the human to get the gates to work so we could go on the platform, when all of a sudden a mean person came over and prevented me from entering the station. He said “no dogs allowed!”. I was like, “how am I going to get home…”, my tail drooped and I hung my head. This didn’t work and he kicked us out of the station…

Not being particularly willing to spend the night sleeping rough in Dublin, our plan of action was to walk down to the next station on the line and have another attempt at getting on the train. We climbed up more stairs and then hung around like criminals just at the edge to see what the staff were up to . When it looked like the coast was clear we went up to the barriers and attempted to get through. One human got through… Unfortunately the human looking after me panicked and couldn’t get the barriers to work. The man at the ticket desk looked up to see what was happening, and apparently in an effort to keep things moving, automatically opened the barriers and we all got through!

Phew! Safely home and snuck in right under their very noses! I hope the Irish train people don’t find out. But of course I was very well behaved on the train and I don’t understand what their problem was…

Woof!

Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo!

May 26, 2009 · 2 Comments

Just got back from my holiday in Ireland. Had a great time, even stayed in a hotel on the way back. I met lots of cats, ran in the sea, visited Dublin (and had an illicit journey on a train… more about that another time), and went on lots of walks!!

We were staying in a holiday cottage, which was a barn conversion. We had the top floor which gave us a balcony and gave me a great view of the local animals as demonstrated by this photo!

Sharing my room

May 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I have had to share my room recently due to being on holiday. Normally when I am holiday my bed gets put in the kitchen/lounge of the holiday cottage and I sleep there. But this time there was a fold out camp bed in the lounge where I was sleeping and so there was a human in my room at night! But this was quite fun, in the middle of the night when I was padding around the room I could jump up at the bed and check on the human. And then in the morning I liked to just sit by their head and wag my tail and will them to wake up and play with me!

Stuck in the car

There are some downfalls to living with “old” people in that they have boring interests – like gardening – and I get dragged into these activities and have to go on boring shopping trips…

Aggressive and persistent chewer

March 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I have strong teeth and I like to use them on my toys, I love chewing fabric toys and tearing them to pieces. This means that my toys don’t last all that long and it is a challenge to find one that lasts more than a week. I pride myself on my chewing abilities. The following email exchanges demonstrates my worth:

Email 1: from my human owner

I have just bought, an Ancol, ‘Extremely Tough Dog Toy’, ‘Small Dog Tuffie’, as my dog loves fabric toys but they come rather expensive as he certainly can be described as an ‘aggressive and persistent chewer’. He is a Border Terrier. Seduced by your description, hoping it might last a week or two, I bought the toy. It lasted five minutes before he got through the outer layer, and the lining, to the inner material. I thought you should know! It doesn’t work for ‘aggressive and persistent chewers’ for any reasonable stretch of time. Dog lover as I am, I think £3.99 for 5 minutes pleasure is a little steep.

Email 2: the reply

We were sorry to receive the contents of your  e mail and are sorry this item has not lived up to the usual Ancol standard

We are not the Manufacturer but the distributor, so we will address this with our suppliers.

Meantime please kindly return the offending toy to your retailer for an exchange/ refund

Once again our apologies.

regards
Victory!:
Ha ha! I shall destroy all offending toys! Woof!
